Synopsis
Peter Bretter es un músico desconocido que ha pasado seis años de su vida idolatrando a su novia, la estrella televisiva Sarah Marshall. Es el típico chico que le guarda el bolso mientras la fotografían los paparazzi y al que ella olvida mencionar en sus discursos de agradecimiento. Pero el mundo de Peter se derrumba cuando Sarah le deja y se encuentra solo. Después de intentar, con más bien poco éxito, convertirse en un donjuán y de tener una crisis de histerismo en el trabajo, se convence de que no tener a Sarah en su vida es el equivalente a no tener vida. En un intento de aclararse las ideas, decide irse a Oahu, Hawái, donde el azar quiere enfrentarle a su peor pesadilla: su ex y su modernísimo nuevo novio británico, el roquero Aldous Snow, se hospedan en el mismo hotel de lujo.
