Synopsis
Narra la campaña presidencial del senador estadounidense Gary Hart, que tuvo lugar en 1988, momento en el que los medios de comunicación difundieron un escandaloso romance extramatrimonial del político. Tras perder la candidatura demócrata contra Walter Mondale en 1984, Gary Hart (Jackman) hizo un regreso triunfal a la candidatura a Presidente en 1987, en un momento en que su partido estaba desesperado por arrebatarle el poder a los republicanos después de dos mandatos de Reagan. Hart tenía todo para él: inteligencia, carisma y experiencia como abogado, director de campaña y senador, sin mencionar a una Primera Dama ideal en su adorable esposa Lee (Farmiga). Pero todo comienza a desmoronarse cuando corre la voz de que Hart es un mujeriego, un rumor seguido rápidamente por informes de que ha tenido una aventura con Donna Rice (Sara Paxton).
