Synopsis
Ernest Toller (Ethan Hawke) es un exmilitar que, tras la muerte de su hijo en la Guerra de Irak y la separación de su mujer, se refugia en la iglesia de un pequeño pueblo al norte de Nueva York como reverendo. Afligido y culpable por apoyar y animar a su hijo a alistarse en el ejército, escribirá en un diario sus profundos y oscuros pensamientos. En su labor como cura conocerá a Mary, una mujer que se ha quedado embarazada y cuyo marido, Michael, rechaza a su propio hijo debido a que tiene la certeza de que el cambio climático va a acabar con el mundo. Toller será el consejero de la pareja, que intentará mediar entre esta situación de desolación y abandono, haciendo creer a Michael que otro mundo es posible.
